Loose but lovely:

Shimmer powders are multipurpose glow makers. Use these loose mica powders as eyeshadow, blush, dust them on your body, or add them to any DIY beauty application you can dream up!

How you use them:

As makeup: apply to eyelids, cheeks, or anywhere you want to highlight using a makeup brush, sponge, powder puff, or your fingertips. Get creative. Shimmer powders are endlessly versatile and sheer enough that they're impossible to mess up.

They're also buildable: simply apply more for a brighter color. You can slightly dampen your makeup brush, sponge, or finger for even more color payoff. Just be sure to keep the contents of the tube dry.

Or, make yourself a shimmer serum: mix these powders with a drop of facial oil for a more sheer, spreadable color.

As body shimmer: lightly dust onto your body using a makeup brush, sponge, or powder puff.

Layer: Shimmer powders add dimension and allow you to change up your look when layered under the Twinkle Apothecary shimmer balms.

DIY: funnel approximately 1/4 teaspoon into a 2 oz jar of body oil, facial serum, body powder, or dry shampoo for a subtle shimmery glow.

Twinkle Terms to Know:

Layering Fragrances: sheer, single-note accords that can be worn alone, or layered together to create your own scent. Collect the bottles individually, or select a pre-made layering fragrance blend.

Natural fragrance FAQs:

Why naturals?

Because synthetic fragrances give me a headache! As an HSP with an extremely sensitive nose, I've always loved the idea of perfume, but wearing it made me sick until I discovered natural fragrance materials like essential oils, CO2 extractions, and absolutes.

I don’t know if natural perfumes are the safer or more sustainable choice. I can tell you that I LOVE the way real plants and flowers smell! I also love the way that wearing natural perfume makes me feel. It’s subtle, intricate, and wears close to the skin, allowing a more personal and grounding mind-body experience to unfold.

If you're looking for a budget-friendly fragrance that will last all day and night to give you the most "bang for your buck" you are on the wrong website. And that's ok! There's nothing wrong with synthetic fragrance materials, they're just not my thing.

If you're looking for something more complex that will interact with your body chemistry to make you feel more peaceful and connected to the earth, I think you'll find something to enjoy from Twinkle Apothecary.

100% natural perfume is DIFFERENT, so please forget everything you think you know about perfume. Really - mainstream perfumes take a lot of creative liberty with fragrance notes, so many people are confused when they smell the real thing and it’s not the same. Samples are your friends. Friends don’t let friends waste precious earth materials that they aren’t going to enjoy.

Keep in mind that there is an inherent “earthy” quality to these ingredients, as they literally come out of the ground. This is a turn-off for some, but I find that what many people think of as “earthy” actually smells “fresh” to me. I guess to me, "fresh" equals "real."

How long does it last?

That depends on your individual nose and body chemistry. I’ve listed the approximate wear time in the product descriptions as tested on myself, but I have a very sharp nose.

These fragrances are dynamic and meant to unfold and change over time. The top note ingredients will always dissipate more quickly than the middle/heart notes, while the base notes should remain on your skin for some time.

It is a myth that oil-based or solid fragrances last longer. If longevity is a top priority for you, try a sample of both the alcohol and oil based options to see which one lasts longer on your skin.

These perfumes are full-strength and ready to wear as-is. Mixing your perfume into a carrier oil or other moisturizer will only dilute the fragrance, making it less strong and long wearing. Instead, consider layering your perfume over the matching body oil to moisturize your skin  and boost the scent.

We live in an overly fragranced world, and 100% natural fragrances can easily be overwhelmed by strongly scented laundry detergents, hand soaps, lotions, etc., so consider switching to unscented (or naturally scented) products to ensure that your natural Twinkle perfume shines through.

How to layer the layering fragrances?

Apply the base note (or heaviest, strongest) scent first. Once it dries and/or settles into your skin a bit, apply one or more middle note fragrances over it. Then, finish with the lightest, top note fragrance as a final touch.

Or, do whatever you want and change it up as you see fit. There aren’t actually any rules!

Other fragrance FAQs

Are all of your ingredients organic?

No, everything is all-natural and 100% botanical based but some of the more obscure ingredients aren’t available as an organically grown option. (And in some instances the conventionally grown ingredient smells better!)

The oil and alcohol perfume bases are organic.

How do you ensure your ingredients are sustainable and child labor free?

I source from reputable, responsible, cruelty-free suppliers, whom I’ve come to trust to provide me with the highest quality ingredients available over my past decade as a natural perfumer. If you would like to vet them yourself, feel free to do so. My main supplier is Eden’s Botanicals, and I also have some ingredients from Organic Infusions, Lotus Garden, and Aftelier Perfumes.

Which is better? Oil, alcohol, or solid perfume?

There isn’t one better option. They all have pros and cons! I’m partial to the alcohol based sprays but oil based perfumes seem to be more popular.

Which of your fragrances are more masculine or suitable for men?

Everything here is gender-neutral. Read through the descriptions and try a sample of anything that sounds good to you.

What if I get a rash?

Stop using the product and make a note of all of the ingredients listed in the product for future reference. I cannot be responsible for everyone’s allergies and do not offer refunds. Always start with a sample first.

I’m pregnant, which of your perfumes should I avoid?

Congratulations! That is a question for a doctor, not a perfumer.

Gorgeous and Versatile!

I rarely wear makeup and consider it a special occasion type thing so I love that these are natural, buildable and versatile. I can use one product for almost all of my makeup needs. You can use these for literally anything and apply them with anything. Eyeshadow, YES! Hilighter, Yes! Body "glitter" Yes! Lipstick Topper/shimmer, Yes!
I am pale but with warm undertones and the Citrine, Mother Of Pearl, Fire Opal and Sandstone are my favorites.

What a fun review! I'm so glad you're enjoying the versatility of these, that's my favorite thing about them too!

Fluorite

I received a fluorite shimmer balm sample with an order and I loved it so I bought the shimmer balm and powder as well. Looking at the color online I never would have bought it but seeing it in person is different- it looks darker and more purpley online but it’s light and buildable in person. It reminds me of the 90’s / Y2K color scheme and I love it. My daughter, 4, loves to get “made up” whenever I’m doing my makeup and I feel okay putting a little on her because a) it’s safer and I know what’s in it and b) it’s so light you can’t even tell it’s on but she thinks she’s wearing makeup so it’s great.

Yes, a fresh take on the Y2K shimmery color scheme is exactly what I was going for here! I have to apply the lighter colors more thickly to get them to show up in the photos so it does look quite purple online but it's really more of a sheer highlight color normally. That's such an important point to share! Thanks so much for the review!

Beautiful shimmery powder

I tried the bronze shimmer powder and it’s just the right color to use on my eyelids. It is easy to use and there is a lot of powder in the tube. It is a shade darker than my other eye color so it gives a bit of shading without being too heavy.

I'm so glad you're loving the bronze color! Thanks for sharing your review!
