Options galore

You’re the one in charge of your skin so you get to choose - essential oils, or unscented?

Choose none to go without if you have sensitive, reactive skin. The unscented oil contains a little extra blueberry seed oil for a totally safe, (and antioxidant packed!) naturally sweet fragrance.

Choose rejuvenating if you’d like to repair, revitalize, and soothe the skin on your face and body. The rejuvenating blend has a comforting, herbaceous floral fragrance.

Ingredients: steam-distilled essential oils of organic neroli, carrot seed, organic helichrysum, organic frankincense, roman chamomile, organic lavender, organic ylang ylang, rose geranium, and sandalwood.

Choose acne if you’d like to target easily congested pores and control and heal breakouts on your face and body. The acne blend has a refreshing green, herbal, woody fragrance.

Ingredients: steam-distilled essential oils of rosalina, organic lavender, organic frankincense, hemp, rosemary, lemongrass, juniper berry, basil, and vetiver.

Neither of those sound quite right? No problem! This item is freshly poured in the Twinkle studio when you order it, so you can choose a different essential oil to suit your needs.

Just leave a note with your order to request any of the following single essential oil options: tea tree, lavender, frankincense, carrot seed, geranium, chamomile, clary sage, ylang ylang, rosemary, patchouli, vetiver, atlas cedar, peppermint*palo santo*eucalyptus*, bergamot*, grapefruit*, lemon*, lime*, orange*

How you use it

Face

To moisturize: After cleansing and toning, massage between 3-8 drops into damp skin. Start with a small amount and add more as needed. Follow with Butter or Filter Balm.

To oil cleanse: Massage 1-2 droppers of oil into dry skin, using circular motions. Pay close attention to areas where your skin becomes easily clogged, and massage into your lids and lashes to remove your eye makeup.

Wipe off with a warm, damp washcloth. Follow with Toner, more Oil to moisturize, and Butter or Filter Balm.

Body

To moisturize: Massage into clean, damp skin immediately after bathing.

In the bath: Add a few drops to your bath to protect your skin from the drying effects of hot water.

To exfoliate: Combine with sugar from your pantry to create a DIY body scrub.

Hair

To style: Apply a few drops to damp or dry hair to tame frizz, add shine, and strengthen the hair cuticle to prevent breakage. Start with a small amount and add more as needed.

To moisturize the hair and scalp as a pre-wash treatment: Apply a full dropper of oil to your hair, massaging it into your scalp and combing it through to your ends. Allow to sit in your hair for 30 minutes to overnight, then wash, condition, and style as usual.

For facial hair: A few drops of oil will soften and add shine to your beard. Start with a small amount and add more as needed.

Natural fragrance FAQs:

Why naturals?

Because synthetic fragrances give me a headache! As an HSP with an extremely sensitive nose, I've always loved the idea of perfume, but wearing it made me sick until I discovered natural fragrance materials like essential oils, CO2 extractions, and absolutes.

I don’t know if natural perfumes are the safer or more sustainable choice. I can tell you that I LOVE the way real plants and flowers smell! I also love the way that wearing natural perfume makes me feel. It’s subtle, intricate, and wears close to the skin, allowing a more personal and grounding mind-body experience to unfold.

If you're looking for a budget-friendly fragrance that will last all day and night to give you the most "bang for your buck" you are on the wrong website. And that's ok! There's nothing wrong with synthetic fragrance materials, they're just not my thing.

If you're looking for something more complex that will interact with your body chemistry to make you feel more peaceful and connected to the earth, I think you'll find something to enjoy from Twinkle Apothecary.

100% natural perfume is DIFFERENT, so please forget everything you think you know about perfume. Really - mainstream perfumes take a lot of creative liberty with fragrance notes, so many people are confused when they smell the real thing and it’s not the same. Samples are your friends. Friends don’t let friends waste precious earth materials that they aren’t going to enjoy.

Keep in mind that there is an inherent “earthy” quality to these ingredients, as they literally come out of the ground. This is a turn-off for some, but I find that what many people think of as “earthy” actually smells “fresh” to me. I guess to me, "fresh" equals "real."

How long does it last?

That depends on your individual nose and body chemistry. I’ve listed the approximate wear time in the product descriptions as tested on myself, but I have a very sharp nose.

These fragrances are dynamic and meant to unfold and change over time. The top note ingredients will always dissipate more quickly than the middle/heart notes, while the base notes should remain on your skin for some time.

It is a myth that oil-based or solid fragrances last longer. If longevity is a top priority for you, try a sample of both the alcohol and oil based options to see which one lasts longer on your skin.

These perfumes are full-strength and ready to wear as-is. Mixing your perfume into a carrier oil or other moisturizer will only dilute the fragrance, making it less strong and long wearing. Instead, consider layering your perfume over the matching body oil to moisturize your skin  and boost the scent.

We live in an overly fragranced world, and 100% natural fragrances can easily be overwhelmed by strongly scented laundry detergents, hand soaps, lotions, etc., so consider switching to unscented (or naturally scented) products to ensure that your natural Twinkle perfume shines through.

How to layer the layering fragrances?

Apply the base note (or heaviest, strongest) scent first. Once it dries and/or settles into your skin a bit, apply one or more middle note fragrances over it. Then, finish with the lightest, top note fragrance as a final touch.

Or, do whatever you want and change it up as you see fit. There aren’t actually any rules!

Other fragrance FAQs

Are all of your ingredients organic?

No, everything is all-natural and 100% botanical based but some of the more obscure ingredients aren’t available as an organically grown option. (And in some instances the conventionally grown ingredient smells better!)

The oil and alcohol perfume bases are organic.

How do you ensure your ingredients are sustainable and child labor free?

I source from reputable, responsible, cruelty-free suppliers, whom I’ve come to trust to provide me with the highest quality ingredients available over my past decade as a natural perfumer. If you would like to vet them yourself, feel free to do so. My main supplier is Eden’s Botanicals, and I also have some ingredients from Organic Infusions, Lotus Garden, and Aftelier Perfumes.

Which is better? Oil, alcohol, or solid perfume?

There isn’t one better option. They all have pros and cons! I’m partial to the alcohol based sprays but oil based perfumes seem to be more popular.

Which of your fragrances are more masculine or suitable for men?

Everything here is gender-neutral. Read through the descriptions and try a sample of anything that sounds good to you.

What if I get a rash?

Stop using the product and make a note of all of the ingredients listed in the product for future reference. I cannot be responsible for everyone’s allergies and do not offer refunds. Always start with a sample first.

I’m pregnant, which of your perfumes should I avoid?

Congratulations! That is a question for a doctor, not a perfumer.
