All About Toner

All About Toner

No, really. I'm all about toner.

Do we even need to talk about why? I feel like if you're reading this you probably already know that it's my answer to everything. If you're struggling with your skin, add a toner. If you're not sure what your routine needs but you feel like it's missing something, add a toner. Dry? Toner. Breaking out? Toner. Are you using a toner? I know, you're not sure that they do anything because you've tried other toners and they didn't seem to make a difference...

This one is different though. Just do it. Trust me.

Why? It's all about balance.

And balanced skin is all about pH balance. Toner helps return your skin to its preferred (more acidic) state after cleansing so the good bacteria that live on your skin can thrive.

It also removes any lingering dirt or oil buildup that your cleanser might have missed, which is why it's so clutch for breakout-prone skin.

It also hydrates (literally, it adds water to the skin,) so when combined with a nourishing facial oil, it makes dry skin a million times juicier.

It truly does offer something for everyone.

 Twinkle's new toner.

The new toner (released November 2022) is pretty similar to the old toning mist (why mess with a classic?) but there are more options now, so I want to take a moment to fill you in on the changes.

With the new toner, you now have the option to choose:

1. Different bottle caps.

2. Different bases (original astringent formula or hydrating hydrosols).

3. Different essential oil blends.

Let's discuss:

1. Different bottle caps

You can choose a screw-on cap or a spray pump.

Maybe you already have a spray pump that works perfectly well at home and you want to minimize plastic waste. Or perhaps you'd like a leak-proof travel option, or, are planning to reuse your bottle for your powder cleanser refills next. Get the screw cap!

Need a fresh new spray pump? No problem, just order one with a spray pump.

It's your call.

2. Different bases (toner vs. hydrosol)

I've combined the hydrosol and toner options into one product listing here because I'm always looking for ways to minimize my life.

Toner base (witch hazel + distilled water)

If you want the original, mildly astringent toner (like the original Twinkle Apothecary Toning Mist,) choose the toner base.

Hydrosol base

If you don't want any astringency (astringent means "tightening" by the way - think of it like closing up your pores after cleansing) choose the rose or lavender hydrosol base. Hydrosols are aromatic waters distilled from plants that contain skin-beneficial nutrients like minerals and essential fatty acids. They're also slightly acidic and help balance your skin's pH after cleansing.

Not sure which one to choose?

I know, it's tough because they're all great and they all work well for all skin types. Some people with dry, reactive skin prefer hydrosol because they want to avoid the small amount of alcohol in the astringent toner base. People with acne-prone skin tend to love the astringent toner because of its antiseptic properties. They both effectively balance, tone, and hydrate the skin. Try them both, try them all. It's all good!

Oh, and here's something fun.

You can customize your essential oils!

(Or go without if you choose a hydrosol base!)

3. Essential oil blends

Rejuvenating:

This blend is full of essential oils that have skin-repairing properties. It smells slightly floral, kind of like the original Twinkle Toning Mist, but it's a little more deep and warm.

Acne:

This blend is full of essential oils that help clear congested pores and heal breakouts. It has a cool, earthy, green, woodsy scent.

TBH I'd wear either of these blends as perfume. They're just as beautiful as they are functional because that's just how I roll here at Twinkle Apothecary.

I can't wait for you to try them!

Questions? Concerns? I can't take comments on the blog because of spam bots, but you're welcome to post any questions that come to mind on the Toner product page and I will answer you there ASAP.

Cheers to happy skin,

Stefanie
